Come on, you just need to copy western cartoons now so you can be a real artist and tell everyone how much you’ve matured! :D

How come? Let me introduce you some great artists that ‘started out with that style’

Roger Ibáñez [Jazz Maynard]

Kenny Ruiz [El Cazador de Rayos / Le Chasseur d’Eclairs]

Mateo Guerrero [Turo]
Guillem March [Gotham City Syrens]
What’s wrong with manga influence anyway?

I was reading some “confessions” on Artistic Confessions, and I think some people needs to stop blaming a style or influences for their present flaws. An artstyle or an influence is NEVER stopping you from learning anatomy, perspective, colour theory. IT IS YOU.
Cut that “since I started drawing [insert style here] I didn’t learn this or that” shit. CUT IT. It was not anime, nor manga nor cartoon nor any other thing what didn’t allow you to do so. IT WAS YOU.
STOP trying to forget your past influences, STOP IT. They’ve brought you where you are now, wether you like it or not. Every lesson learned, be it good or bad, is valuable.
You are free to change your subjects or your artstyle if you please, you’re free to keep developing it and you’re free to cease progressing or keep evolving. There are no iron rules, and if they are, you can screw them.
Just realize that, in the end, it all depends of you, not your influences, your choices, or your tastes. No other thing is to be blamed for your lack of progress but you. Any other thing is a blatant excuse.
IMHO
